Best of B&B 2016 Award

Turns out it is not only award season in Hollywood! Borrowed and Blue is one of our favorite wedding blogs that is designed to inspire and guide brides and grooms from across the US in 66 specific markets. Every year they come out with the only exclusively vendor-voted wedding industry awards. It's so unique (and fun!) that B&B allows the vendors themselves to hand-pick their very favorite companies to work alongside. We believe that your vendor team needs to be comprised of people who are not only talented and fit nicely into your budget, but that they are also a joy to work with! For example, it's difficult to get a sense of a photographers communication style if you are only viewing images in their online gallery, but it's absolutely essential to have the person capturing all your precious moments be someone who you feel comfortable interacting with - not to mention smooching and crying in front of.

At One Fine Day Events we strive to ensure that the dream team we help you build is comprised of individuals that make you smile. And it makes us smile that our colleagues have chosen us for this prestigious award. We are honored to receive an award for being one of the top three Best Wedding Planners in Lake Tahoe.

The Idea Board | Cinnamon Toast Hot Toddy

Leaves are turning, the air is becoming chillier, and we've had the first flurries of snow - Fall is officially here! As the weather shifts to all things Autumn, I always turn to a cozy beverage to snuggle up with - Cinnamon Toast Hot Toddy. This would be the perfect accompaniment for a night on the couch, or by the fire, with a snuggly sweater.

  • 1 1/4 ounce(s) Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
  • 6 ounce(s) hot apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon(s) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon(s) cinnamon

Add hot apple cider and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum to a glass rimmed with sugar and cinnamon. Sip slowly and enjoy!

Lake Tahoe Wedding Inspiration | Sherbet Soiree

What better colors to use this Summer than the bright and yummy colors of sherbet? I came across this gorgeous bridal luncheon and just had to share! The cheery pinks and creamy tangerines are the perfect color combination for a Summer wedding palette.

Tahoe Unveiled's Weekly Juice!

This week on our sister site, Tahoe Unveiled, we uncovered a few wonderful ways cinnamon can be swirled into decor, we made the bestest of friends with diamonds, and last but certainly not least, we were encouraged to eat lots of delicious candy for Halloween - which, I for one, did not need much encouragement to begin with!

Tahoe Unveiled's Weekly Juice!

This week on our sister site, Tahoe Unveiled, we really swung into Fall with Tartan prints, creamy and warm color tones and horse drawn carriages! I also snuck in a tiny glimpse of Spring because I'm already looking forward to fresh blooms of flowers and bright sunshine now that the days are getting shorter and the layers needed to stay comfy are increasing. I do admit I'm a sucker for warm weather but it feels like Fall and I'm totally embracing it!

Lake Tahoe Wedding Inspiration | Little Wedding Cakes

Little cute are they?! I think they are the perfect alternative to the super trendy cupcake, and a nice transition from the traditional wedding cake. It's a perfect blend of both worlds - you still get the cuteness & variety of the cupcake while maintaing the traditional and classic part of a wedding cake.

Lake Tahoe Wedding Inspiration | Elegant Farm Tables

Whether you're looking for a down-home rustic vibe or a slightly more elegant look, farm tables are the way to go! It's all a matter of either a chandelier here or a polished vase there and you can achieve the perfect look. Here are a few examples of a dressed up farm table with touches of rustic of my personal faves!

The Idea Board | Hug-Proof Boutonnieres

Grooms and groomsmen always look strapping in their sharp suits and shiny shoes but after hours of dancing and hundreds of hugs, the guys' boutonnieres can be left looking a tad bit sad. No fear, we have solutions for hug-proof boutonnieres! Try pinning on a cute medallion in your wedding colors or go for something unique like a Japanese Knot, believed to bring the recipient good luck. You could also ask your florist to use fiddle-head ferns which come in a variety of colors, lay flat against a lapel, and can withstand lots of hugs!

Tahoe Wedding Planning Advice | Budgeting

Everyone knows one of the most stressful things about a wedding (aside from everything!), is the budget. Whether you have a million dollars or twenty to work with, one of the most important things to do when planning your wedding is to develop a realistic budget! Although, one of the hardest things to do is to develop a realistic budget that can incorporate everything you love and desperately need to have throughout the wedding festivities. Here are a few of our tips: #1) Create a list of the top 3 most important aspects of the wedding. These should be the aspects that are the most important to you, your fiancé, and whoever is paying for the wedding. Consider flowers, music, ambiance, venue, decor, photography, organization of the wedding weekend, size of the guest list, and paper goods.

Budgeting for your Lake Tahoe Wedding

#2) Create a spreadsheet detailing the vendors you wish to book and the various costs. Make sure you include a "just in case" fund and a "miscellaneous" fund. I always factor in $1500 - $2000 in the "Just in case fund" for our clients. You never know what kind of last minute situation could arise (bad weather, road closure, missing vendor, etc) and you don't want the unexpected to ruin your wedding because you couldn't afford to fix it.

Budgeting for your Lake Tahoe wedding

#3) Find out how much vendors charge for flowers, catering, venues, and photography costs in Lake Tahoe. Our pricing is not the same as every other region for several reasons: 1) We are in the mountains and our resources are limited, 2) we have to ship many products in, or factor in a 2 hour delivery service, or drive 3 - 4 hours 1 direction to purchase specialty items, 3) the Tahoe elements can be harsh on equipment and vendors need to plan accordingly, and 4) Lake Tahoe is a tourist destination - the town only makes money during the 3 month peak season when people get married and travel here for vacation.

Budgeting for your Lake Tahoe Wedding4) Don't forget to factor in the little details. Ask your vendors for all of their costs so that you don't forget to factor them into your budget. Catering companies will always charge an additional fee for staff; musicians from out of town will need hotel rooms; and the florist will charge an event fee for delivering, installing, and breaking down the flowers.

Budgeting for your Lake Tahoe wedding

5) Anticipate the highest bill for alcohol. If you book a venue that charges alcohol on a consumption basis, or if you are bringing in your own alcohol you need to plan ahead. You don't want to run out of alcohol or find yourselves dumbstruck on your wedding night when you discover the bar bill is twice what you budgeted. Work with your planner to figure out an accurate consumption formula - I recommend estimating on the high end, as it is always better for the bill to come in lower rather than higher!

Lake Tahoe Wedding Inspiration | Holiday Sparkle

The Christmas Holidays are right around the corner, and with that means friends, family, and sparkle! Whether shiny, shimmery, or sparkly, decor pieces with a bit of sheen are perfect for Holiday Weddings. Try putting white lights in your pipe and draping, tossing shimmery sprinkles on your wedding cupcakes, or add a little glamour south of your ankles with a gorgeous sparkly shoe. The holiday season is here, let's celebrate!

Lake Tahoe Inspiration | Lovely Lilac

We're putting together some inspiration boards for an upcoming wedding and I thought I would share one with you! I think Lilac is an absolutely stunning color to incorporate into your wedding color scheme. It reminds me of French fields covered in Lilacs and the soothing scent that envelops you, perfect for calming your nerves on the big day!
